The Deepest Tower

STORY

Ghent, 1412. The Gravensteen has twenty-four watchtowers. Every chronicle agrees on the number. Every chronicle is wrong.

When the castle’s clerk dies mid-sentence, his last words scratched in a script no one in Flanders can read, the job of sorting his affairs falls to Elise, a woman more comfortable with ledgers than with people, who is about to discover that some documents don’t want to be filed away.

Her search takes her through guild archives, monastic records, and the forgotten geometry of the castle’s foundations, toward a fragment even the city has forgotten: a twenty-fifth tower, sunk not into the wall but into the earth beneath it, sealed for two hundred and thirty years. Somewhere below, prisoners wake speaking words they’ve never learned, scratching symbols into stone they cannot reach. The dye trade is spoiling into colors with no name. And a story, the first Grail romance ever written, dedicated to the very man who built this castle, may not be fiction at all.

Ghent stands on ancient ground.
Something beneath it has been asking a question for two hundred years.
No one has answered yet.

Where The Name of the Rose meets The Green Knight.
