      Spoiler

Using algebra the mystery number is always 3 but there is no 3 door so is the mystery ? door a 3? But why would we want to go all the way back to 3? Strange…

Also the shapes/candles match the shapes of the door signs, not sure if that means anything…

There are two of the five Platonic solids visible in the room; the pyramid (4 surfaces), and the cube (6 surfaces). Platonic solids are often associated with Alchemy. Missing are the octahedron (8 surfaces), dodecahedron (12 surfaces), and icosahedron (20 surfaces).

The sphere (1 surface), which is also visible, is sometimes added to the Platonic solids.

from the description: “The room does not hide anything for those who visit it”

I think this means we can take the obvious clues at face value and choose the mystery door to be 3. The author probably includes this because he recognizes that unwarranted significance could be put on the room, given the theme. There’s 3 lines on the container, 3 Platonic solids, the algebra results in 3, and “lead and gold” are separated by atomic number of 3.

I’m not sure if 3 is the fastest way to the final room, but it’s the most direct way to get back to the path, which I think is where the author is going with this one; I think this is just another escape from the loop section of the maze, nothing of extra special significant afaict.

We picked 18 because the sign is a triangle and many clues pointing to 3.
