I could only come up with what look like “3” and “6” in the patterns in the ceiling.

 

floor is also 3 x 3 squares (of 4 sides each). I notice now the hint about chess but I dont see how to get to 36 with those pieces and pattern

Hg is a symbol for mercury. Galelio discovered the planet Mercury and the pendulum. It’s his painting next to door 36.

Also we want to avoid the monster that’s going through 33 so that’s incorrect and we have been to 43 before
