I know it should be 45 as by this time I was following the sentence in english using the single word out of the bottom of each text page, the only way to get 45 for me was the lines cutting up the circle into 4 quarters inside a 5 sided shape (pentagon) for 45.

There are a few other clues.

Look carefully at the tiles above the doors, and you can see XLV.

The plinths between the doors hold the Chinese numerals for 4 and 5, upside-down (just like the room numbers)

I think the pentagon then X then nonagon is saying 5 x 9 = 45

Above door 45 is Apollo driving his sun chariot. Above door 35 is Icarus falling from getting too close to the sun.
